Rider Conduct

Recent events and general discussion between commissaires have raised concerns regarding riders flouting the Highway Code and riding on the right-hand side of the carriageway whilst racing. This event takes place on an open road, where other moving traffic and public vehicles will be travelling in the opposite direction.

All riders MUST keep to the nearside lane at all times during this event. The course has blind corners, limited views and solid centre white lines. Crossing the solid white line in the middle of the carriageway is prohibited.

Click the image for more information on Race Smart

During the event, we have three commissaire cars as well as a Moto commissaire. If you are observed crossing the solid centre white line OR crossing over white lines and compromising the safety of others, you are risking instant disqualification. We appeal to all riders to ride in a safe manner and to follow the rules of the highway at all times. Junctions will be managed by Accredited Marshals, and these areas are fine to take the racing line whilst in the main peloton. Junctions will not be managed for dropped riders, so please treat your race as a training ride if you are dropped. You are more than welcome to complete the race, but the junctions won’t be closed for you.

Support Crew & Team Managers

Race Communications

All in-race communications will be by UHF and DMR radio. Separate channels will be assigned for marshals, organisations, and commissaires and they will be advised as appropriate.

Dedicated Radio tour will be provided on BC Channel 5 (449.4000 mHz).

A convoy radio check will be carried out during the neutralised section by the Moto Commissaire.

Feed Zone

The feed zone is located in the final 200m of each lap just prior to the finish line on both days. Feeding will not be allowed on the first or last lap and must take place on the left. Bottles and wrappers can be dropped at the feed zone only so long as team helpers collect these. Littering will not be tolerated, and all wrappers must be returned to your pocket at all other points on the course. You will be at risk of disqualification and/or a fine. The day 1 feed zone has a steep and uneven verge unsuitable for car parking. Feeding is not allowed during the Time Trial.

Team Cars and Neutral Service

Team cars are permitted in the convoy. The team manager must have the appropriate insurance and team manager endorsement on their licence. Teams must also have 3 riders take the start of Stage 1 (R11.3.).

There will be a dedicated Neutral Service and a Broom Wagon powered by Schwalbe UK. Please bring labelled spare wheels, if you don’t there won’t be any service for you.

Race Regulations

Time Trials

Riders should not be accompanied, followed or in any way encouraged by anyone in a motorised vehicle (R14.2.6.).

Do not warm up on course once the race has commenced or cross the finish line during warm-up with the transponder.

Riders

Sign On

A valid physical 2025 British Cycling licence must be presented at sign-on. Your licence will be held for the duration of the race. Should you withdraw from the race early, you can collect your licence from HQ. Please ensure you sign on before it closes.

Sign on for the Stage 2 (ITT) will be at the start point. You must sign on before you will be allowed to start so please arrive with ample time.

Rider Briefings

Attendance of all briefings is mandatory.

Rider Safety

Hospitals

The nearest hospitals providing accident and emergency facilities are:

Race Numbers & Results

You will be issued with a transponder, frame number and 2 race numbers, which must be worn on your lower back, unfolded and unaltered. Numbers must be clearly visible at all times. Where a number cannot be seen, the rider concerned may not be placed in the final classification. You may ride with one or two body number in the time trial.

If you fail to return the transponder at the end of Stage 3 or upon withdrawal, you will be fined £100.

Spectators

Spectators are encouraged to gather around the course and are welcome around the finish area. Please ensure any cars are parked away from the race circuit and, under no circumstances, before the finish line. Please do not crowd the finish line itself and allow the judges to do their job.

The Rapha broom wagon will be set up close to the Race Finish, serving free coffee and AF Beer across the day, so please make sure to stop by.

Media

At the finish of the race, we ask all photographers to adhere to the marked out photography line, which will be set to the left-hand side of the road as you stand watching the race approach as per the illustration below. This is for your safety.

Do not park on Elm Ave or Elm Close. If you intend to set up rollers or shelter, please do so in an area which will not limit car parking, eg the turning circle on the North side of the hall. No cleats should be worn inside the hall.

Breakfast, snacks, Tea/Coffee and Soft drinks will be available from race HQ for a donation.

Race Route

Open & Women’s Stage 1

Important note: Unlike previous years the course will use Main Street (In Red) and not Back Lane. This change will apply to both the Road Races and TT.

  • Womens – 8 Laps – 67 km
    • The lap board will show 8 to go on the first crossing of the finish line.
  • Open – 14 Laps – 117km
    • The lap board will show 14 to go on the first crossing of the finish line.

Sprint points will be awarded at the end of the following laps

Women’sOpen
Lap 2 (3rd Passage of the finish)Lap 3 (4th Passage of the finish)
Lap 4Lap 6
Lap 6Lap 9

Please park well beyond the turn 1 towards Wysall and walk to the finish/feed zone. The grass verges in the feed zone are steep and damaged the bumper of a car when we first used this circuit.

Women’s Stage 2

To get to the start, turn left onto Selby Lane and follow the Neutralised route down the hill until you join the Stage 1 route. The start will be just beyond the National Speed limit signs. The route to the Start is over 4km, so please leave in ample time. The finish will be just before you enter Widmerpool, close to the Pikes Oakfarm.

To return to HQ, continue straight, turning right at the end of the road. Follow the neutralised section in reverse to HQ.

The new GC leader will be determined overnight and handed the leader’s jersey at Stage 3 Sign-on. We will do a formal presentation after stage 3.

Race Route

Open Stage 2

To get to the start, turn right out of HQ and follow the Neutralised route throught Long Clawson until you join the Stage 1 route. The Start is just beyond the National Speed Signs where the hedges move away from the road and visability improves. The start is only a few minutes away from HQ, but please leave with ample time. The finish will be 200m before the left turn towards hose at the bottom of Harby Hill.

To return the HQ, take the left turn and follow the road for 3 miles.
